St. Francis "Peace Prayer"

St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred let me sow love,
Where there is injury let me sow pardon,
Where there is doubt let me sow faith,
Where there is despair let me give hope,
Where there is darkness let me give light,
Where there is sadness let me give joy.

O Divine Master, grant that
I may not try to be comforted but to comfort,
Not try to be understood but to understand,
Not try to be loved but to love.
Because it is in giving that we receive,
It is in forgiving that we are forgiven,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Quotes from Mother Teresa

From the DVD/TV Show of "Madre Teresa"

"Lord, make me an instrument of peace.
Where there is hatred, may I bring love;
Where there is offense, forgiveness;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is desperation, may I bring hope;
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy;

Allow me to console, rather than to be consoled;
To understand, rather than to be understood;
To love, rather than be loved;
Because, giving is receiving;
Because, it is in forgiving, that we are forgiven;
It is in dying, that we are born to eternal life."

Mother Teresa: "Life is life
Let us defend it always and with the smiles
Helping the weakest, the poor, the sick, the old..."

The Final Analysis (source)
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; ...Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; ...Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; ...Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; ...Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; ...Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; ...Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; ...Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; ...Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

Adapted from Mother Teresa enlarged and framed sign, hung in the front lobby of her Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, the children’s home in Calcutta (origins)
